SOANE PACK OUR SOLUTION.jpg

At Soane Materials, our products are the answer to the problems of excess plastic waste and harmful bioaccumulating environmental toxins. Through our line of completely biobased and biodegradable packaging and plastic materials, SoanePack™ revolutionizes the single-use plastic industry for the better.

One of the leading solutions in SoanePack™ is our additive formulations for oil, grease, and water-resistant barrier properties. These additive formulations are adaptable and can be applied to products such as molded pulp fiber containers, paper and cardboard, bio-based foams and plastics, and more, making all 100% compostable and PFAS-free.

Our Solution

Through rigorous innovation, Soane Materials has developed molded fiber products that offer the same performance using completely biobased ingredients, including streams of agriculture waste cellulose. This means not only are we using green chemistry, but we are also creating a closed-loop system for more sustainable practices. All our products are home compostable, so feel free to toss your used to-go container in a home compost bin and let those nutrients back into the soil.

SoanePack™

Oil, Grease, Water Resistant (OGWR)

Barrier properties such as oil, grease, and water resistance (OGWR) are important qualities that people want in their products, such as food containers that don’t leak and water resistant shipping containers that won’t damage what’s inside. The SoanePack OGWR solution is a versatile platform that can be applied to many of our other product offerings and is completely bio-based and biodegradable.

Our OWGR solution is currently under development in the molded pulp fiber, foams, and plant-based plastics product offerings. This wide array of applications is important to us because it means we are reducing single use plastics and harmful chemicals that are found all around us. Whether it be food safe containers, packing foam peanuts, or plant-based credit cards, you can be confident that your products will meet performance needs while being safe for you and the environment.

Molded Fiber

The Soane Materials’ solution for molded pulp fiber products is bio-based, biodegradable, and tunable to all types of packaging needs. Our answer to better molded pulp fiber products contain NFC and the SoanePack OGWR solution to protect against oil, grease and water so that your products stay dry and meet performance needs.

Making sure to be compatible with existing processing methods, the Soane Materials molded pulp fiber solution can be used with multiple pulp sources, such as kraft, bagasse & miscanthus, as well as the ability to be formed via traditional thermoforming processes. Since our solution is biobased and PFAS-free, the finished molded pulp fiber products are food safe.

Foam

Soane Materials' Foam strives to replace traditional single-use plastics in packaging applications. SoaneFoam low-density, lightweight packaging solutions provide shock absorption and insulation while minimizing material consumption.

Strength, moisture and vapor resistance, stiffness, density, among many other properties can be uniquely tuned to fit any application.

Like all Soane products, Soane Materials' Foam is a 100% bio-sourced, biodegradable, and home compostable solution that aims to replace harmful, non-biodegradable foams like polystyrene, polyurethane, and polyethylene, in food service, traditional packaging, and beyond.

Plant-Based Plastics

Soane Materials’ replacements for single-use plastics are 100% plant-derived biodegradable alternatives to synthetic plastics. By compounding agricultural waste with our strengthening and barrier technology packages, new materials are designed for use across a variety of applications such as packaging and cutlery.

The material properties are adjustable for each unique application. Altering the formulation allows for the production of rigid bodies to flexible thin films.

Industry Problem - Packaging and Single-Use Materials Generate Harmful Excess Waste

Nearly all single-use plastics are produced using virgin feedstock from fossil fuels. Fossil fuel production and subsequent plastic generation are large contributors to greenhouse gas emissions fueling global climate change. Moreover, approximately 85% of single-use plastics end up in landfills or unregulated waste.

Some of the materials and ingredients used in single-use products that end up in the environment are referred to as “forever chemicals’ because they do not break down. One of the more dangerous of these forever chemicals is PFAS, commonly used for their oil and water resistance. These chemicals bioaccumulate in our blood stream, in our water systems, in the food that we eat. They are also dangerous toxins, with substantial evidence of numerous adverse health effects.
